At its January meeting, EMA’s Committee for Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC) elected Carmen Purdel as its new chair, for a three-year mandate starting on 2 March 2026. A quality assessor at Romania’s medicines agency and an associate professor of toxicology in Bucharest, she has served on the committee since 2011.

Succeeding Emiel van Galen, Purdel plans to foster the exchange of collective expertise within the network providing accessible and transparent communication on traditional herbal medicines products to ensure their safe and informed use on the EU market.
