On 27 January 2026, in Brussels, at POLITICO’s conference Back in the game? Europe’s race for digital leadership, Marko Mišmaš, Chair of BEREC and head of Slovenia’s AKOS, highlighted the European regulators’ support for the Digital Networks Act (DNA) in simplifying regulations and creating a more coherent framework. He stressed that simplification should not limit national flexibility, undermine competition, or reduce end-user protection.
Mišmaš provided a high-level overview of the EC’s DNA proposal, noting BEREC’s careful review of key elements such as copper switch-off, end-user rights, and market regulation. He welcomed the new responsibilities granted to BEREC but cautioned against excessive centralization, emphasizing that any transfer of powers to the EU level must respect proportionality and subsidiarity.
Concluding his remarks, the BEREC Chair underscored that fast, reliable, and secure networks are crucial for Europe’s competitiveness, but these must coexist with a strong competitive environment and robust regulatory safeguards, essential for European security and digital sovereignty.
