AESGP, EFPIA and Medicines for Europe have released a joint report reviewing electronic Product Information (ePI) pilot projects in 31 European countries, highlighting Europe’s gradual transition from paper-based patient leaflets to digital medicines information in line with the revision of EU pharmaceutical legislation.

The report shows that 14 countries are currently running ePI pilots, 7 are preparing projects, and 10 have not yet started, mainly due to legal, technical, or resource limitations. Most pilots focus on hospital-only or healthcare professional–administered medicines, though some countries, such as France, are extending ePI to prescription and non-prescription medicines.

Results from existing pilots are largely positive. Nordic countries are testing English-only packaging combined with local-language ePI to improve logistics and access. Belgium and Luxembourg report strong acceptance after seven years, with no major issues for pharmacists or physicians and more than four million packs distributed. Portugal and the Baltic states also report positive feedback from healthcare professionals and pharmacists.

Results from ongoing pilots are largely positive.
