The EFPIA Oncology Platform is launching a new White Paper at a high-level policy event in Toledo, Spain, organised with Farmaindustria, calling for stronger coordination to reduce disparities in access to targeted cancer treatments and biomarker testing across Europe. Titled “Advancing precision oncology treatment and testing across Europe: An evidence-based roadmap for healthcare system stakeholders to improve cancer care,” the paper brings together policymakers, clinicians, patients, payers, industry and health stakeholders to discuss how scientific advances in personalised cancer treatment can translate into equitable patient access.

Despite progress in molecular diagnostics, genomic profiling and targeted therapies, access remains uneven due to low awareness, limited infrastructure and workforce capacity, and outdated reimbursement models. The White Paper proposes a practical implementation toolkit based on 15 case studies and best practices, outlining targeted policy actions in three priority areas: raising awareness of precision oncology, strengthening infrastructure and workforce capabilities, and aligning funding and reimbursement systems so diagnostics and targeted treatments advance together.
