The European Commission has issued preliminary findings proposing that Google must share search engine data with third parties under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The measures would require Google to provide access to ranking, query, click, and view data on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory terms, aiming to boost competition and allow rival search engines and AI tools to improve their services.

The proposal outlines rules on who can access the data, what data must be shared, how often it is provided, and safeguards such as anonymisation and pricing conditions. A public consultation is open until 1 May, after which the Commission will review feedback and may adjust the measures before adopting a final, binding decision by July 2026.
