Greece has introduced a new digital registry to monitor the sale of alcohol, tobacco and vaping products in real time, aiming to strengthen enforcement and improve the protection of minors, according to Tobacco Journal.
The system, built around the platforms alto.gov.gr and events.gov.gr, allows authorities to register, cross-check and track commercial activity that was previously only partially visible.
More than 88,600 points of sale, including liquor stores, bars, mini markets and kiosks, have already been registered, covering over 79,000 businesses, as some operators run multiple locations.
Under the new framework, retailers must register, provide business details and prove compliance with legal requirements. Approved businesses receive a QR code that enables inspectors to instantly verify their status.
Companies that fail to register are banned from selling these products, with violations potentially leading to suspension of activity.
