BEREC Chair Marko Mišmaš called for stronger regional cooperation on digital regulation during the ITU Global Symposium for Regulators in Ankara, Türkiye.

Speaking under the theme “Navigating the Digital Frontier,” Mišmaš said closer coordination between regulators is increasingly necessary due to the global nature of digital services and rapidly evolving technologies.

He also stressed the importance of a balanced regulatory framework to support Europe’s transition to full-fibre connectivity, encourage investment and maintain competition while protecting consumers.

“Connectivity is no longer only about telecom markets. It supports digital competitiveness. It strengthens resilience. And it is part of strategic autonomy,” he said.

The event also addressed network resilience and emergency communications, with discussions focusing on the role of artificial intelligence, satellite technologies and cooperation between regulators, industry and EU institutions, including ENISA and European Commission.
