The European Commission has signed the Pax Silica Declaration on behalf of the European Union, committing to closer cooperation with global partners on artificial intelligence development and the security of semiconductor supply chains.

The initiative aims to strengthen resilience in global silicon supply chains at a time when AI is increasingly shaping economies and societies. It also seeks to improve coordination among trusted international partners and create new opportunities for European businesses in the technology sector.

According to the Commission, the agreement is intended to support economic security, technological progress, and Europe’s long-term competitiveness. The move is part of broader efforts to reinforce the EU’s tech sovereignty, following the recent adoption of the Technological Sovereignty Package, which includes measures such as the Chips Act 2.0 to enhance semiconductor supply chain resilience.
