Austria’s National Council has passed amendments to the Tobacco and Non-Smokers Protection Act, banning all disposable e-cigarettes, including nicotine-free products, to curb rising use among young people. The legislation also introduces stricter regulations for nicotine pouches and other nicotine products, including nicotine limits, mandatory health warnings, advertising restrictions, a ban on online distance sales, and a prohibition on sales to anyone under 18.

Additionally, the law bans the disposal of tobacco-related products on public playgrounds to reduce the risk of nicotine poisoning among children, with fines of up to EUR 2,000 for repeat offenders. The measures also strengthen enforcement through mystery shopping and align Austrian rules on e-cigarettes with EU technical requirements.
