The European Commission launched two calls for evidence on implementing measures under Regulation (EU) 2026/1388 on plants obtained by new genomic techniques (NGTs), covering the procedures and information requirements applicable to both Category 1 and Category 2 NGT plants.

• Category 1 NGT plants : The initiative will establish the information to be provided to demonstrate NGT status and the requirements for verifying whether a plant qualifies as Category 1, including information related to patents. Stakeholders can submit feedback until September 28, 2026.

• Category 2 NGT plants: This will establish requirements for applications for consent or authorisation of Category 2 NGT plants and derived products, including information supporting safety and environmental risk assessments, monitoring requirements and analytical methods. Stakeholders can submit feedback until September 28, 2026.
