The European Commission adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/2097, updating the list of communicable diseases and related health issues subject to EU epidemiological surveillance and their corresponding case definitions.

The Regulation notably includes COVID-19, RSV infection, mpox, Hantavirus infection and antimicrobial consumption, alongside antimicrobial resistance and healthcare-associated infections, and updates definitions to reflect new scientific evidence and diagnostic practices. It repeals Implementing Decision (EU) 2018/945 and will apply directly in all Member States from 1 July 2028
