The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has reinforced its commitment to protecting children’s personal data, warning that young people face growing risks in today’s fast-changing digital environment.
Protecting children’s data has become a strategic priority for the EDPB, as it is now working on new guidelines on the processing of children’s data as part of its 2024 – 2027 strategy. In addition to regulatory action, the EDPB is now addressing children directly. It plans to launch a dedicated online platform, “Privacy for Kids,” designed to explain digital rights in simple, engaging ways through colourful and interactive materials. The hub will bring together educational resources from data protection authorities across Europe and will be available in multiple languages.
To mark Data Protection Day, the EDPB has released a preview of the initiative through an animated video, encouraging parents, teachers and educators to use it as a starting point for conversations about online privacy and responsible digital behaviour.
