EMA and the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) have reinforced their partnership to support health innovation across the EU. By signing a letter of intent, EMA Executive Director Emer Cooke and EISMEA Director Momchil Sabev committed to helping innovators better understand EU regulatory requirements and accelerate the development of safe and effective health technologies. Building on their cooperation since 2021, the partnership includes a 2026–2027 work programme focused on training, regulatory guidance, horizon scanning, and support for EIC-funded projects, with the aim of strengthening Europe’s biopharmaceutical and medtech sectors.

  • Emer Cooke, EMA Executive Director, highlighted that enabling innovation is central to EMA’s public health mission, emphasizing that the collaboration helps innovators address unmet medical needs, improve health outcomes, and enhance Europe’s competitiveness.

  • Momchil Sabev, EISMEA Director, stressed that early engagement with regulatory expertise allows innovators to make better development decisions, reduce risks, and bring innovative solutions to patients more efficiently, while creating conditions for Europe’s most promising companies to succeed.
