The European Commission has convened the inaugural meeting of the AI Act Advisory Forum, a new body established to support the implementation and enforcement of the European Union’s landmark AI Act.

Discussions focused on organisational matters, including the adoption of procedural rules and preparations for the election of co-chairs who will help guide the forum’s future work.

The meeting also addressed key policy issues related to the implementation of the AI Act. Commission officials presented the forthcoming Code of Practice on Transparency for AI-generated content and sought initial feedback from forum members on standardisation issues and draft guidelines for classifying high-risk AI systems.

The forum consists of 174 members selected from more than 700 applicants representing civil society organisations, academic institutions, industry groups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and start-ups. Members are expected to contribute technical expertise and policy advice on a wide range of issues, including standardisation efforts and challenges related to implementing the AI Act.

Members will serve renewable two-year terms and will participate in plenary sessions, thematic working groups, and consultations. They may also be asked by the Commission or the AI Board to provide opinions, recommendations, and written contributions on matters related to AI regulation.

The launch of the Advisory Forum represents another step in the EU’s efforts to establish a comprehensive governance framework for artificial intelligence as the AI Act enters its implementation phase.
