The European Commission has launched seven new funding calls worth €63.2 million under the Digital Europe Programme, targeting the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies across key sectors.
A significant share of the funding is directed toward healthcare innovation. Around €9 million will support AI-powered image screening in medical centres, with the aim of improving early detection and diagnosis of conditions such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Another €24 million will go toward advancing digital health services under the European Health Data Space, designed to enhance access to and use of health data across the EU.
Beyond healthcare, the Commission is also investing in online safety and digital skills. Funding will support the expansion of the Network of Safer Internet Centres to strengthen child protection online, while €12.5 million is earmarked for advanced digital skills training to better align Europe’s workforce with the needs of a modern, tech-driven economy.
Additional calls include €8.5 million for digital solutions that help companies comply with EU regulations, €6 million for research on online information integrity, €1 million for establishing an EDIC Support Hub, and €1.8 million for programme dissemination activities.
According to the Commission, these initiatives contribute to broader strategic goals outlined in the AI Continent Action Plan and the Apply AI Strategy, aimed at accelerating AI adoption and strengthening Europe’s digital competitiveness.
All calls are open until 1 October, with applications submitted via the EU Funding & Tenders Portal.
