The European Commission has determined that Apple Ads and Apple Maps should not be designated under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Following Apple’s notification of these services in November 2025, the company argued that they do not serve as important gateways between business users and end users.

After reviewing Apple’s arguments, the Commission agreed that neither service qualifies Apple as a gatekeeper, noting that Apple Maps has relatively low usage in the EU and Apple Ads has limited scale in online advertising.

The Commission will continue to monitor these markets, but this decision does not affect Apple’s gatekeeper status for other core services, designated in 2023 and 2024.
