The European Commission has unveiled two new calls under the Horizon Europe Work Programme’s ‘Digital, Industry and Space’ cluster, allocating €307.3 million to strengthen Europe’s digital innovation, competitiveness, and strategic autonomy.

The first call, with €221.8 million in funding, targets the development of trustworthy artificial intelligence (AI) services, innovative data solutions, and technologies supporting the EU’s strategic autonomy. Projects may include AI development, robotics, quantum technologies, photonics, virtual worlds, and initiatives aligned with the Commission’s Apply AI Strategy. Over €40 million of this funding is dedicated to the ‘Open Internet Stack Initiative,’ aiming to advance both end-user applications and core digital infrastructure to support European sovereign digital commons.

A second call, with €85.5 million available, focuses on open strategic autonomy in emerging technologies and raw materials, including next-generation AI agents, industrial and service robotics, and advanced materials with enhanced sensing capabilities.

Both calls are open to businesses, academia, public administrations, and other entities from EU Member States and partner countries. The Commission emphasizes that these investments aim to secure European leadership in strategic digital technologies through sustainable, human-centric innovation, in line with its Competitiveness Compass.

Applications are open until 15 April 2026.
