The European 5G Observatory will host an online workshop on 23 June 2026 titled “5G and the road to 6G in Europe and beyond”, bringing together policymakers, regulators, industry representatives and researchers to review Europe’s 5G progress and discuss future connectivity policy.
The event will present key findings from the 2026 5G Observatory report and examine how Europe is tracking against Digital Decade targets. Discussions will also focus on how performance indicators are used to monitor market developments and support evidence-based policymaking.
The first part of the workshop will assess the maturity of 5G deployment across Europe, including lessons learned from rollout and the emergence of 5G standalone networks and private network use cases. The second part will look ahead to future connectivity, exploring how 5G evolution should be measured and how progress towards 6G could be assessed, including potential new indicators such as quality of service and adoption trends.
Participants will also discuss how the European 5G Observatory may evolve in response to future policy needs, including the 2026 Digital Decade review. The workshop is open to EU and national authorities, telecom operators, industry stakeholders and experts in next-generation networks, with the aim of shaping the future of Europe’s connectivity strategy.
