Jim Hagemann Snabe has been appointed Special Envoy for Industrial Artificial Intelligence, advising European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy Henna Virkkunen on the EU’s industrial AI strategy.

In this role, Snabe will focus on strengthening Europe’s AI ecosystem, including infrastructure such as data centres, high-performance computing, and semiconductor supply chains. He will also advise on core technologies like large language models, generative AI, cloud services, and industrial applications, while helping align innovation with EU regulatory policy. He is expected to produce an evidence-based report on industrial AI.

Snabe, a Danish business leader with more than 25 years of experience in technology and digital transformation, will serve as a non-remunerated special adviser until March 2027. He will temporarily step back from board roles at companies including Google Cloud and C3.ai to avoid conflicts of interest.
