The European Commission has launched the Connectivity Agenda Platform, a new initiative aimed at strengthening transport, energy, digital, and trade links between the European Union, the Black Sea region, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia.

The platform was unveiled during a high-level ministerial meeting led by Commissioners Marta Kos, Jozef Síkela, and Apostolos Tzitzikostas. The event brought together representatives from EU Member States and partner countries, including Armenia, Moldova, Türkiye, Ukraine, and several Central Asian nations.

As part of the initiative, the Commission signed agreements with international financial institutions expected to mobilise up to €2 billion for investments in transport infrastructure, border crossings, and trade facilitation projects across the Black Sea region and the South Caucasus.

Participants also agreed to enhance the efficiency of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, a key trade route linking Europe and Central Asia. The European Commission will assess the corridor’s performance and identify priority measures to improve its competitiveness.

Background

The Connectivity Agenda is part of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy and was first presented in October 2025. Its objective is to improve regional connectivity through coordinated investments and regulatory cooperation, creating more resilient and efficient links between Europe and Central Asia via the South Caucasus and the Black Sea region.

In short: The EU is deepening its engagement with the Black Sea, South Caucasus, and Central Asia by launching a new coordination platform and facilitating up to €2 billion in infrastructure investments to strengthen trade and connectivity.
