The seventh meeting of the AI Board convened on Friday, 20 March, under the chairmanship of the Cypriot Presidency of the EU, bringing together key stakeholders to assess recent developments in the European Commission’s AI strategy.

Advancing the AI Continent Action Plan

The European Commission presented progress achieved during the first year of the AI Continent Action Plan, including updates on the implementation of the Apply AI Strategy. Discussions focused on next steps for aligning national AI strategies across Member States and on measures to encourage businesses to develop, deploy, and integrate AI solutions tailored to their respective industries.

Developments on the AI Act

Chairs and Vice-Chairs of the relevant Working Groups introduced the second draft of the Code of Practice on labelling and marking AI-generated content, followed by a Q&A session. The updated draft reflects extensive feedback from a wide range of stakeholders, including industry representatives, academia, civil society, Member States, and Members of the European Parliament.

The Cypriot Presidency also provided an update on negotiations surrounding the Digital Omnibus on AI, highlighting the achievement of the Council mandate on 13 March 2026. The Board further reviewed ongoing developments related to the implementation of the AI Act.

Additional Discussions

Participants examined progress in establishing national AI regulatory sandboxes and exchanged best practices. The meeting concluded with the endorsement of several documents prepared by an AI Board subgroup, including three reports scheduled for publication in the near future.
