At the International Institute of Communications (IIC) Digital Communications and Media Forum, incoming BEREC Chair for 2027, Alejandra de Iturriaga (CNMC, Spain), emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to address increasing complexity and geopolitical risks affecting the electronic communications and digital services sectors.

She noted that the coming years will be critical for achieving the EU’s Digital Decade targets and adapting to a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, while ensuring secure, sustainable and affordable connectivity for citizens and businesses.

De Iturriaga also outlined BEREC’s Strategy for 2026-2030, which sets out a roadmap for consistent and forward-looking regulation of digital infrastructure and services. The strategy identifies key priorities including promoting connectivity, supporting competitive digital ecosystems, empowering users, and enhancing the sustainability and resilience of digital networks.

The strategy also foresees closer cooperation with EU institutions, national regulators, stakeholders and international partners, as well as continued engagement with legislative initiatives such as the forthcoming Digital Networks Act.
